Park Hyung-ju is Korea's representative mathematician who has made great efforts into popularizing the field of mathematics.

He graduated from Seoul National University with a doctorate in physics and worked as a professor at Oakland University's Department of Mathematics. He also served as the professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics at POSTECH.

After earning a doctorate in mathematics from UC Berkeley, he was appointed as the chair professor of mathematics at Ajou University in 2015 and served as Director of the National Institute of Mathematical Sciences until July 2017.

In particular, he is considered as an authority on mathematics in Korea, as he successfully hosted the competition as the Chairman of the International Mathematical Union(ICM) organizing committee held in Korea in 2014, and became the first Korean mathematician to be appointed executive member of the International Mathematical Union(IMU).
